Basic Facilities Management Seminar at the University of Mindanao

Entitled “Basics Facilities and Maintenance Management”, the participants found the seminar to be a lot of fun while a the same time full of practical tools and techniques. The attendees of the Basic Facilities Management Seminar came from the different campuses of the university. The different maintenance trades required to maintain the university were represented including physical plant, pipe-fitting, motorpool, carpentry, air-conditioning, electrical, janitorial, printing and publication, safety and security.
The Basic Facilities Management Seminar updated the participants on the various concepts of maintenance including reactive maintenance, preventive maintenance and reliability centered maintenance. A variety of tools were introduced including process mapping, 5S, error proofing (poka-yoke), kaizen, the pareto principle and fisbone analysis and the 5 Whys Analysis. Greatly appreciated by the attendees were the concepts of Key Peformance Indicators (KPIs), priority setting and how to create a management control board using the Kanban Scheduling Technique.
